Highlights

So, Heart Creek is under construction and no, we didn't know this until we got 5 mins in and the trail was gone. There are tractors working away, ripping up the side of the mountain and have taken the trail with them. I guess you could try to get by and proceed or maybe by the time you hike it, it will be good to go. Regardless, we had to turn around and I was not going to let this ruin our hike day!

We decided to look around the parking lot to see if there were any other trails, if not we would drive to a different location. Our luck was on our side, there seemed to be another trail. It's not fantastic, you hear traffic from the freeway down below, which does not give this trail the serene feel we go to the mountains for. Its hard to just leave, we made the best of this day and finished this random choice of a trail and so glad that we did! At the end, there is a cave which we explored and seemed to have rooms inside.

On the way home, the boys looked up the history of this cave. Apparently, it was a bunker that they planned to put important documents into in case there was a nuclear war. The problem that they found with this location as a bunker was that it was too wet and would ruin the documents, so they canceled that idea. Now, it's just a really cool place to go, and explore!
Final Thoughts
The trail was busy, however it is neat to explore the bunker. Would I go back, no, I wouldn't. It’s far too noisy and too short for my liking. It is a great fun hike for kids and family's.
